We should be grateful for God’s thoughts. What does He think? How does He want us to think and live? As we reflect on these questions, remember this: when you align your thoughts with God’s, you’re thinking the most powerful thoughts possible. When you think His thoughts, you begin to understand what He thinks about you.

In this episode of InTouch, we explore how to take control of your thoughts. Your mind is the control tower of your life—everything that happens to you starts there. All your decisions, actions, and behaviors stem from your thoughts. The truth is, who we are today is the result of what we’ve been thinking about for years. As the Bible says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” If you’re unhappy with what’s happening in your life, ask yourself: What am I thinking about? What do I believe about myself? What do I think about others? Our thoughts control us—our relationship with God, our relationships with others, our sense of direction, and our accomplishments or failures.

Often, we forget that our thoughts are the control tower, and everything else in life is shaped by them. While we can’t control everyone or all our circumstances, we can control how we respond to them. Many people find themselves where they are due to wrong thinking, while others are where they are because of right thinking. The key question is: What determines our thoughts? Is it the Word of God, or is it something else?

Think about it: how often do we open our minds to influences from the world—like news, TV shows, or even movies—without realizing they are programming us to think a certain way? This includes preaching too. We must be careful about what we let into our minds. The goal is to be programmed to think like God thinks, to understand His Word, and to live in a way that honors Him, so we can experience His best for our lives.

On the other hand, consider the content you consume. Many programs are filled with negativity—sensuality, crime, and other harmful messages—that you don’t need in your thought life. These things shouldn’t have a place in your life.

In this message, we’re discussing how to control our thoughts, as they shape everything else in our lives. If you turn to Colossians 3 in your Bible, we’ll read the first eight verses. Paul begins by addressing the importance of focusing on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. He writes:

“Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.”

Paul goes on to instruct us to put aside all negative behaviors—immorality, impurity, evil desires, anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech. These things are part of the old way of life, and they should have no place in us anymore.

When you were saved, the Bible says you died to your old life and were raised to walk in newness of life. Baptism symbolizes this transformation—you die to the old life and are reborn into a new life in Christ. Since this new life is rooted in Christ, we must focus on the things above, where Christ is seated. While we still have responsibilities in this world, we must prioritize the spiritual things of God.
