Sarah Jakes Roberts Daily Devotional – October 21, 2026
If your heart feels a little tired today, you are not alone. God sees the parts of you that look brave on the outside but feel shaky on the inside. On days like this, when the questions seem louder than the answers, the Lord is not backing away from you—He is drawing closer. As we lean into this devotional, imagine the Holy Spirit sitting right beside you, whispering, “You are still My choice. I’m not done with you yet.” Today, receive fresh hope, renewed courage, and the reminder that God writes beautiful stories out of broken places.
Anchored in His Promise
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)
This verse is more than a Christian slogan; it was spoken to people in Babylonian captivity who felt forgotten and displaced. God didn’t deny their pain. He spoke promise into it. Right in the middle of confusion, God declared, “I still have a plan.” That same voice speaks over your life today—over the bills, the deadlines, the doctor’s report, and the family tension. God’s plan is not canceled by your current situation. Your present chapter is not the final sentence of your story. His heart toward you is goodness, hope, and a future rooted in Christ.
When Broken Pieces Become Building Blocks
Maybe you feel like you’re bringing God nothing but fragments today—missed opportunities, strained relationships, private battles no one sees. Yet, in the hands of Jesus, broken bread fed multitudes, and shattered lives became testimonies. The same God who met Hagar in the wilderness and restored Peter after denial knows how to meet you where you are.
Practically, this means pausing in the middle of your day and saying, “Lord, I offer You this moment.” When anxiety rises, breathe and repeat, “God, You are here.” When you’re tempted to spiral into worst-case scenarios, answer with the Word: “Your plans are to give me hope and a future.” Journal a few lines tonight about where you saw His grace—one answered email, one smile from a child, one moment of peace. These small acknowledgments build your spiritual muscles. You are not merely surviving; you are being shaped, strengthened, and prepared.
Drawing Near in Faith and Surrender
Father, in the name of Jesus, I come to You with my faith where it is—some parts strong, some parts trembling. I confess that I don’t have all the answers, but I choose to trust that You do. Grow my faith beyond what I can see. Help me believe that even this season is working for my good and Your glory.
Lord, strip away the lies that say I am not enough, that I am disqualified, or that my time has passed. Remind me that in Christ, I am accepted, chosen, and deeply loved. Teach me to surrender not only my struggles, but also my timelines, my expectations, and my need to control every outcome. May my identity be rooted in who You are, not in what I accomplish.
Holy Spirit, reorder my desires so that I long for Your presence more than I long for quick fixes. Open my eyes to see where You are already moving. Turn my worries into worship and my questions into conversations with You. Let this day be marked by renewed trust, deeper spiritual hunger, and a quiet confidence that You will finish what You started in me.
Covering Our Homes in Peace
Lord Jesus, I bring my family, loved ones, and relationships before You. Step into every living room, kitchen, and bedroom connected to my life. Replace tension with tenderness, misunderstanding with mercy, and distance with connection. Heal generational wounds and unspoken hurts. Give us the courage to apologize, forgive, and start again.
Protect our marriages, strengthen single parents, and surround our children—biological, spiritual, and blended—with Your shielding love. Let our homes become places where Your presence is felt, Your name is honored, and Your peace settles like a warm blanket at the end of a long day. Teach us to speak life over one another and to fight for each other, not against each other.
