Lisa Harper Daily Devotional – October 17, 2026
If your heart feels a little tired today, you are not alone. Many believers across the United States are waking up with mixed emotions—grateful for God’s goodness, yet weighed down by news headlines, family pressures, financial strain, or quiet battles no one else can see. As you read this daily prayer, imagine the Lord gently pulling up a chair beside you, listening, caring, and staying. Today, God is inviting you to breathe again, to remember that you are not carrying life by yourself. He is closer than the ache in your chest and stronger than the worries racing through your mind. This moment, right here, can become holy ground as you fix your eyes on Jesus, surrender your cares, and receive fresh hope for the journey ahead.
Anchored by a Promise in the Storm
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.” (Isaiah 43:2, ESV). This isn’t a shallow motivational quote; it’s a covenant promise from a faithful God. He doesn’t say “if” you walk through deep waters, but “when.” Hard seasons are part of life, but drowning is not your destiny in Christ. The Lord Himself pledges His presence in every wave and current. When bills pile up, relationships strain, or your own thoughts turn against you, God does not step back—He steps closer. Isaiah 43:2 reminds us that circumstances may rise like rivers, yet the One who spoke to the wind and waves still reigns over everything pressing against your soul today. You are not forsaken; you are fiercely loved and fully seen.
Walking With God in the Ordinary Moments
Spiritual growth rarely happens only in big conferences or mountaintop encounters. It unfolds in laundry rooms, traffic jams, team meetings, and quiet drives home. Today, ask God to make you aware of Him in the ordinary. Whisper a quick prayer before you open your email. Invite Him into that hard conversation you’ve been avoiding. Turn your worry into a sentence of trust: “Lord, I don’t know how this will work out, but I choose to trust You.” Faith is built one small yes at a time. Maybe your next step is forgiving someone again, putting your phone down to really listen to your child, or finally setting aside ten minutes to read a Psalm. You don’t have to do everything at once; just take one obedient step, and then another. Over time, those small steps will weave a testimony of God’s faithfulness through your everyday life.
Drawing Near in Faith and Trust
Father, today we bring You our faith—shaky, strong, or somewhere in between. We confess that we often lean on our own understanding and then grow anxious when things slip out of our control. Teach us to rest in Your character more than in our own performance. Deepen our roots in Your Word so that when doubt whispers, truth speaks louder. Help us to trust Your timing when answers seem delayed, to trust Your wisdom when doors close, and to trust Your love when we feel unworthy. Strengthen our desire to know You, not just to use You as a problem-solver. Holy Spirit, awaken a fresh hunger for prayer, worship, and Scripture. As we go through this day, remind us that spiritual growth is less about perfection and more about staying close to Jesus, even with trembling hands and imperfect hearts.
Covering Our Homes With Peace
Lord, we place our families and loved ones into Your capable hands. You know every tension in our homes, every unspoken concern, every strained marriage, every prodigal child, every silent tear shed in the dark. Bring Your peace into our living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms. Heal old wounds and soften hard hearts. Teach us to speak life, not criticism; to listen before we react; to forgive more quickly than we accuse. Protect our children and grandchildren—from harmful influences, from crippling fear, and from lies about their identity. Let our homes become sanctuaries where Your presence is welcome, where prayer is normal, and where love is felt even in disagreement. Surround our families with Your grace, and remind us that You are working behind the scenes even when we cannot see the evidence yet.
Health, Healing, and Inner Strength
Heavenly Father, we lift up our bodies, minds, and emotions to You. For those fighting sickness, chronic pain, or lingering fatigue, stretch out Your healing hand. Guide doctors, nurses, and caregivers with wisdom from above
