John MacArthur Daily Devotional – October 23, 2026: Holding Fast When Life Shakes
Some days it feels like the ground beneath your feet just keeps moving. Headlines are heavy, bills stack up, health changes overnight, and the people you love most are walking through storms you wish you could stop. If that is how this October day finds you, you are not alone—and you are not without hope. The same faithful God who carried generations before us is present in your living room, your car, your office, your kitchen sink moments, right now. Today’s devotional, inspired by the rich, steadfast, Scripture-centered teaching associated with John MacArthur’s ministry, is an invitation to cling to Christ with fresh confidence, to steady your heart in God’s unshakable promises, and to talk to Him honestly about every part of your life.
Unshaken by His Word
Today’s verse: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV). In a world that won’t stop changing, this verse is like an anchor dropped deep into the ocean floor. Christ does not evolve with trends, bend with culture, or shift with our moods. The same Savior who walked the dusty roads of Galilee, who spoke peace to a raging sea, who stretched out His hands on the cross and rose again in power, is the very One who listens when you whisper, “Lord, help me,” in your bedroom tonight. His character does not age. His love does not fade. His authority does not weaken. When everything else shakes, this is where you can stand: on a Christ who never changes, never lies, and never leaves.
Faith That Lives on Ordinary Days
It is easy to feel spiritual on Sunday morning, sitting under biblical preaching and singing truths you know are right. But Jesus also wants to meet you in the ordinary—traffic jams, dishes, emails, doctor visits, report cards, late-night worries you don’t tell anyone about. Faith is not just believing God exists; it is trusting Him enough to lean your real weight on Him in the middle of real pressures. That means bringing your anxiety to Him before you scroll, opening your Bible before you open social media, and asking, “Lord, how do You want me to think and act today?” A Christ-centered devotional life, the kind often emphasized in expository teaching, is not about quick spiritual snacks. It is about letting Scripture shape how you see everything—your kids, your job, your money, your pain. As you do, you will find that hope grows quietly inside you, even when your circumstances have not changed yet.
Strengthening Faith and Deepening Trust
Father, today we ask You to deepen our faith. Where we doubt, remind us of who You are. Where we are fearful, help us remember that Christ is on the throne. Teach us to trust not in our feelings, but in Your Word. Help us to believe that every promise You have made in Christ is “Yes” and “Amen.” Draw our hearts away from self-reliance and back to humble dependence on Your grace. Grow in us a love for truth, a hunger for holiness, and a willingness to obey even when obedience is costly. When we face hidden battles in our thoughts, speak peace into our minds. Let Your Spirit strengthen our inner being so that we stand firm, not as fragile victims of life’s chaos, but as sons and daughters who know their Father is in control.
Grace for Family and Home
Lord, we lift our families to You. You see every marriage, every single parent, every blended home, every lonely heart. Bring Your peace into tense conversations. Heal old wounds and soften hard hearts. Give husbands and wives grace to forgive and courage to love sacrificially. Strengthen parents who feel exhausted and discouraged; remind them that You love their children even more than they do. Protect our children and grandchildren from deception, from harmful influences, and from despair. Fill our homes with the aroma of Christ—words that build up, not tear down; laughter that reflects Your joy; and a love that points straight back to the cross. Where there is division, be our reconciliation. Where there is silence, open doors for honest, gentle talk.
Healing for Body and Soul
Heavenly Father, we bring You every ache, diagnosis, and private fear about our health. For those battling chronic pain, cancer, heart disease, anxiety, depression, or fatigue, stretch out Your healing hand. Grant wisdom to doctors and clarity in decisions. Steady hearts that are
