2024 ELECTION: Is America VOTING the WRONG WAY? | Kirk Cameron on TBN
The 2024 election is here, and today’s discussions aim to provide thoughtful insights on questions surrounding civics, faith, and political engagement from a Biblical perspective. We are joined by Dr. Jeff Meyers, President of Summit Ministries, to discuss how a Biblical worldview can influence political and cultural engagement.
Dr. Meyers explains that viewing society through God’s perspective can give us a unique outlook on politics. A key question to consider is the nature of humanity—whether people are intrinsically good or flawed. Our answer to this, shaped by scripture or other beliefs, affects how we approach the creation of a flourishing society.
One common struggle among voters is the concept of choosing “the lesser of two evils.” But from a Biblical viewpoint, all candidates, like all people, have a sin nature. Instead of fixating on that, Dr. Meyers suggests focusing on “lessening evil” through our vote. This approach can help new voters, many of whom feel anxious about making the right choice. He encourages them to view voting as a “hiring decision” rather than a battle of personalities, which allows voters to wisely choose leaders who will uphold their values.
In the United States, a constitutional republic, our leaders work for us—not the other way around. Voting, therefore, is not about endorsing a personality but rather about selecting someone who will fulfill a role responsibly. Dr. Meyers encourages voters to consider each candidate’s policies and how they align with principles such as constitutional values, equality, and human rights.
As we approach the polls, it’s crucial to focus on policies that create an environment where citizens can thrive. Leaders are chosen to represent and uphold these ideals, creating a society that reflects the values of liberty, life, and pursuit of happiness for all.
