Stop Complaining and Start Creating: A Message of Faith

Here’s a challenge for you—one that I hope you’ll accept. But even if you don’t, that’s okay. I can present the challenge, but I can’t force you to take action. Every time you feel tempted to complain, see it as an opportunity to create instead. Let complaining be a trigger that leads you to action.

The Bible tells us, “Do everything without complaining,” but sometimes, before we can reach the stage of change, we have to pass through the stage of complaint. Those who came before us were not rebuked for expressing their frustrations—they were blessed because they kept moving forward. Remember, when the prophets said, “This place is too small,” the response wasn’t a rebuke. The answer wasn’t just, “Be grateful for what you have.” No—the prophet gave them permission to expand.

Some of the things we pray about, stress over, and even complain about—calling it prayer—are actually things God has already given us permission to change. Have you ever worried about something, claiming to have prayed about it, but never truly sought God’s guidance? Do you talk to everyone about your problems except the One who can actually transform your situation? Let this be the year you stop complaining to people who can’t change anything and start bringing your concerns to God, who can.

Meeting God Beyond the Building

The Bible tells us, “The company of the prophets said to Elisha…” Now, let’s pause and recognize something important: A prophet speaks on behalf of God. In biblical times, prophets were the ones who relayed God’s messages. But today, as believers, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Jesus is our Great High Priest, and His Spirit is with us always. You don’t need someone else to deliver a word from God—He speaks directly to you through His Word.

If one person fails to deliver a message, God’s Word still stands. If a preacher falters, Scripture remains true. If I were to stop speaking right now, the message wouldn’t end—because God’s Word is eternal. It doesn’t originate from man; it comes from God. It is not only internal—it is eternal.

When we talk about meeting with God, understand that it’s not about a physical location. Some may assume this means building a church, launching a new ministry, or starting a campaign. But true spiritual growth isn’t about constructing a building—it’s about building new habits, strengthening faith, and surrounding yourself with people who will help you grow in God’s presence.

Following God’s Clear Command

A prophet’s role is to deliver God’s truth, whether it’s a warning of judgment or a promise of blessings. But did you notice something striking in this passage? It wasn’t Elisha who spoke first—it was the company of prophets who initiated the conversation. This is significant because sometimes God commands us to take action. He has already given us clear instructions in His Word—these are not mere suggestions or advice; they are divine commands.

For instance, God clearly tells us to flee from sexual immorality. If you’re on the edge of making a wrong choice, you don’t need to pray about it—you need to run from it. Another clear command? “Forgive others, just as God in Christ forgave you.”

Yet, many people pray for direction on big decisions—asking whether they should move to a new city or start a new job—while ignoring what God has already commanded. The truth is, if you don’t obey Him in one place, your problems will follow you wherever you go. Unforgiveness in one city won’t disappear in another; it will simply resurface in a new environment. The real question isn’t where you should go—it’s whether you are willing to follow God’s clear direction, wherever you are.

Take Action This Year

Too often, we create confusion to avoid taking responsibility for our actions. But this year, let’s shift our focus to obedience. The prophets in Elisha’s time said, “Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place for us to meet.” They didn’t just complain about their situation—they took action.

God is calling you to do the same. Instead of complaining, start creating. Instead of waiting for permission, step into the authority God has already given you. This is the year to build—not just structures, but faith, discipline, and a life centered on God’s presence.
