The Divine Presence: God’s Glory Among His People

While other cultures built temples to their gods, Israel experienced something truly unique—God Himself dwelling among them, even in a simple tent. What makes your faith distinctive isn’t merely belief in Jesus, but that God actually dwells within you.

The Glory on Mount Sinai

Moses ascended the mountain as the cloud covered it, and the Lord’s glory rested on Mount Sinai. For six days, the cloud remained, and on the seventh day, God called to Moses from within it. To the Israelites watching below, the Lord’s glory appeared like a consuming fire atop the mountain. Moses entered the cloud and remained on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.

Imagine this powerful scene: God’s glory manifesting on the mountaintop, visible to the Israelites as what looked like a devouring fire. During one of my tours to Israel, while in the desert near where the Israelites likely journeyed, I witnessed something remarkable at dawn. As darkness gave way to first light, I observed a distant desert mountain with its peak mysteriously illuminated, as if by fire or lightning. I still don’t know the cause, but it gave me a profound sense of what the Israelites might have witnessed when they saw God’s glory on Mount Sinai as Moses ascended.
