The End-Time War Against Motherhood | Mother’s Day 2025
Jonathan Cahn shares on the culture’s war against motherhood, and how a mother’s love is one of the closest shadows on earth of God’s love for us.
The Divine Nature of Motherhood
In Hebrew, the word for mercy (raham) and womb (rechem) share the same root. This profound connection reveals that God’s mercy toward us is as tender, intimate, and protective as a mother’s womb. The first woman in the Bible wasn’t originally called Eve but rather “Chavah,” meaning “life-giver” or “mother of all living.” This name reflects woman’s inherent nature – designed to give, nurture, and sustain life, one of the highest callings possible.
Cultural Warfare Against Motherhood
Our society is currently engaged in what appears to be a war against motherhood:
- Political administrations targeting pro-life ministries
- Cultural movements that prioritize career success over family formation
- Media that subtly and overtly devalues traditional motherhood
The shift began decades ago. For example, the Barbie doll, which became a cultural phenomenon in the 1960s, represented a departure from traditional baby dolls. The 2023 Barbie movie opens with a controversial scene depicting girls smashing baby dolls, symbolizing “enlightenment” through rejecting motherhood.
This cultural transformation coincided with the sexual revolution and expanding abortion access, contributing to plummeting fertility rates across Western nations. Once concerned about overpopulation, many countries now worry about population decline.
The Evolution of Anti-Motherhood Sentiment
The attack on motherhood has evolved into a redefinition of womanhood itself. What began as challenges to traditional masculinity has extended to erasing the concept of women altogether, replacing terms like “mother” with “birthing person” and allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.
