Lysa TerKeurst Daily Devotional for October 20, 2026 – When Your Heart Feels Pulled Apart

If your heart feels stretched thin today, like you’re trying to hold too many pieces together, you’re not alone. God sees the late-night tears no one else notices. He hears the questions you’re too tired to say out loud. On this October 20, 2026, pause for a moment and let your soul breathe. This devotional is a gentle invitation to step out of the swirl of pressure, fear, and uncertainty, and step into the steady arms of a God who has not forgotten you. There is fresh mercy for this very day, exactly where you are, not where you think you “should” be by now.

Anchored by a Promise

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14, NIV) The Israelites stood trapped between an uncrossable sea and an advancing enemy army. Panic made perfect sense. Yet God’s instruction was startling: be still. This wasn’t a call to passivity but to trust. God was already at work in ways they couldn’t see, preparing a path through what looked impossible. In the same way, your Red Sea moments—those situations that seem hopeless and hem you in on every side—are not the end of your story. God’s promise in Exodus 14:14 is a reminder that the weight of the battle is not on your shoulders. He invites you to move from frantic striving into confident dependence on Him.

Choosing Trust in the Middle of the Tension

We often want God to fix everything quickly, neatly, and painlessly. But many times He grows us in the tension instead of removing it right away. Today, consider one place where you feel especially overwhelmed—maybe it’s a strained relationship, a financial burden, or a health worry. Instead of replaying every worst-case scenario, pause and speak this simple sentence: “Lord, I choose to trust You with this.” Trust doesn’t mean you never feel afraid; it means you bring your fear directly to God instead of letting it rule you. Practically, this might look like turning off the news earlier tonight and reading a Psalm, choosing a kind response in that difficult conversation, or taking five minutes in your car before work to whisper, “Jesus, go before me.” Small, repeated steps of trust shape a life anchored in God’s faithfulness.

Drawing Near in Faith and Growth

Father, in the name of Jesus, I bring my faith—fragile as it may feel—before You today. I ask that You would stretch and strengthen it. Help me to believe that You are good even when life is not. Teach me to recognize Your voice above the noise of fear and doubt. Grow my roots deeper into Your Word so that I am not easily shaken by shifting circumstances. When I’m tempted to measure Your love by what I can see right now, remind me of the cross and the empty tomb. Holy Spirit, renew my mind and reorient my desires toward You. Let this be a day when I take even one small step closer to You, trusting that what I bring in weakness, You meet with Your perfect strength.

Covering Our Homes in Prayer

Lord, I lift my family and loved ones to You. You see every hidden hurt, every unspoken need, every place where misunderstandings have built walls. Bring Your peace into our home, into our marriages, our parenting, and our friendships. Where there is tension, sow gentleness. Where there is distance, build bridges of grace and honest conversation. Protect our children and grandchildren—guard their minds, their hearts, and their paths. For those we love who feel far from You, draw them back with cords of lovingkindness. May our homes be marked not by perfection but by forgiveness, patience, and a shared desire to honor You in the way we speak, listen, and love.

Health, Healing, and Emotional Renewal

Jesus, You are the Great Physician. I bring my body, my mind, and my emotions to You. For every diagnosis, every ache, and every chronic struggle, I ask for Your healing touch and Your sustaining grace. Strengthen my immune system, renew my energy, and help me honor You with healthy choices. For the anxiety, depression, and emotional exhaustion that so many of us carry, breathe peace into the places that feel tight and overwhelmed. Replace spiraling thoughts with steady truth. Help me to rest when I need rest and to move when I need to move. Remind me that
