John MacArthur Daily Devotional for May 31, 2026

Some mornings you wake up with a quiet ache in your heart. Responsibilities, decisions, worries about the future, and the weight of yesterday’s failures can press down before your feet even touch the floor. Yet right in the middle of that heaviness, God is inviting you to something deeper than fear or anxiety—He is inviting you to trust Him completely. Today, as you pause with this devotional, picture your life—your family, your health, your job, your bank account—resting in hands that never tremble and never fail. The Lord who saved you is the Lord who keeps you, strengthens you, and walks with you through every unknown.

Anchored by His Word

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5–6, ESV)

This familiar verse is not just a comforting slogan; it is a holy invitation. God calls you away from the illusion that you must understand everything, figure out everything, or control everything. To “trust in the Lord with all your heart” means you lean the full weight of your life on His character, not on your emotions or circumstances. When you acknowledge Him in all your ways—big choices, small decisions, private struggles—He promises to direct your path. That doesn’t always mean an easy path, but it does mean a guided one, a path where His wisdom, not your worry, leads the way.

Living Faith in the Middle of Real Life

Trusting God is not a vague feeling; it shows up in daily choices. It looks like opening your Bible when you would rather scroll your phone. It looks like choosing to pray instead of rehearsing what could go wrong. It looks like forgiving someone when your heart wants to hold a grudge, believing God will heal what was broken. When anxiety rises about bills, your children, or the state of our nation, trusting God means you remind your soul of who He is: sovereign, holy, loving, and wise.

Today, you can take one small step of trust. Maybe it’s surrendering a decision you’ve been clinging to, confessing a hidden sin, or choosing to praise God in the middle of a trial. These small, quiet acts of obedience grow your faith. Over time, you will look back and see that while you were trusting Him in the dark, He was straightening your path in ways you never imagined.

Prayer for Deeper Faith and Steadfast Growth

Father, I ask that You deepen my faith today. When I cannot see the whole picture, help me to rest in what I know is true about You. Teach me to love Your Word, to listen for Your Spirit’s gentle conviction, and to obey quickly. Remind me that spiritual growth is often slow and hidden, like a seed growing underground, yet You are always at work. Guard my heart from doubt, cynicism, and spiritual laziness. Strengthen me to pursue holiness, to turn from sin, and to cling to Christ as my only hope and righteousness.

Covering Our Homes with Your Peace

Lord, I lift my family and loved ones to You. You see every marriage strain, every prodigal child, every silent tension around the dinner table. Bring Your peace into our homes. Heal broken communication, soften hard hearts, and teach us to love one another as You have loved us. Protect our children and grandchildren—guard their minds from lies and their hearts from bitterness. Let our houses be filled with prayer, forgiveness, and joy. Where there is loneliness, send companionship; where there is conflict, bring reconciliation. Make our homes small sanctuaries where Your presence is felt and Your name is honored.

Strength for Body, Mind, and Spirit

Gracious God, You know every diagnosis, every sleepless night, every hidden pain. I bring my health and the health of those I love before You. Grant strength to weary bodies, clarity to troubled minds, and comfort to anxious hearts. For those battling chronic illness, give endurance and moments of real relief. For those facing medical decisions, give wisdom and peace. Heal where You will, sustain where You choose, and in every situation let Your grace be sufficient. Protect us from fear, and help us to steward our bodies well as temples of Your Holy Spirit.
