When God Holds What Feels Like Too Much

If you woke up this morning feeling like life is a little heavier than your heart can manage, you are not alone. Maybe you are carrying a quiet ache no one else can see, or trying to hold everything together at home, at work, and in your soul. On days like this, God is not asking you to be stronger, tougher, or more impressive. He is inviting you to bring your “too much” to the One who is always enough. Today’s devotional, inspired by the heart and honesty of Lysa TerKeurst, is a gentle reminder that God meets us right where we are—not where we think we should be. You don’t have to pretend with Him. You just have to come.

Rooted in His Word, Not Our Feelings

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, NIV) This verse is more than a comforting phrase; it is a promise about where God chooses to position Himself. He doesn’t stand far off, waiting for you to “get over it.” He draws near to the very places in you that feel shattered, rejected, or worn thin. Your broken heart is not proof that God has left you; it is actually the address He uses to come close. When your emotions scream that God is distant, this verse quietly insists He is nearer than your next breath.

When Life Feels Unraveled

We love neat stories—clear beginnings, tidy endings, and everything tied up with a bow. But real life rarely looks like that. Maybe you’re in the middle of a story right now that doesn’t make sense yet: a strained marriage, a prodigal child, a health scare, or financial pressures that keep you awake at night. Faith does not deny the pain. Faith anchors you to the truth that God is working even when you cannot see how. Today, choose one area that feels out of control and, instead of replaying worst-case scenarios, whisper, “Lord, I trust You with this.” Write it down. Name it. Then ask the Holy Spirit to show you one small step of obedience—maybe a phone call, a prayer, an apology, or simply resting instead of striving. Spiritual growth usually happens in small, hidden, daily yeses to God.

Lord, Grow My Faith in the Middle of the Mess

Father, I bring You my questions, my doubts, and my weary heart. Some days my faith feels fragile and thin. I confess that I often lean on my own understanding, my own plans, and my own timelines. Today, I surrender again. Teach me to trust You when I cannot trace You. Strengthen my spirit to believe that You are good, even when circumstances are not. Let my roots go down deep into Your love so that I am not tossed around by fear or disappointment. Shape my perspective so I see my life through the lens of eternity, not just this difficult moment. Draw me closer, Jesus. Make my heart soft, responsive, and fully Yours.

Lord, Be the Center of My Home

God, I lift up my family and every relationship connected to me. Where there is tension, bring peace. Where there is distance, create new bridges of understanding. Heal unspoken hurts, soften hardened hearts, and break patterns of conflict and confusion. Cover my spouse, children, parents, and loved ones with Your grace. Protect our home from division, discouragement, and spiritual attack. Let our conversations be seasoned with kindness, our decisions guided by Your wisdom, and our home atmosphere filled with Your presence. Help us forgive quickly, listen carefully, and love sacrificially—just as You have loved us.

Healer of My Body and Keeper of My Soul

Lord, You see every ache in my body and every hidden bruise in my emotions. I ask for Your healing touch today. Strengthen my immune system, renew my energy, and restore what has been worn down by stress and worry. Calm my anxious thoughts and quiet the storm inside me. Where there is sickness, bring recovery. Where there is chronic pain, release relief and courage to endure. Guard my mind from lies that say I am alone or beyond help. Remind me that my body is a temple of Your Holy Spirit. Help me steward my health with wisdom—through rest, wise choices, and the humility to ask for help when I need it.
